Guess Who Moved To Brooklyn

hadal-zone:

I ate dinner here tonight. I have never technically been to a Checkers before, but I’ve been to Rally’s in Lexington at least 1,000 times since I got my driver’s license.

Now you may be wondering how a Checkers can exist here on Court Street in downtown Brooklyn, because, after all, every Rally’s and Checkers franchise has outdoor seating. I wondered that too, but after I ordered my food I noticed this sign:

I will have to go back during daytime to get a good photo, but believe me when I say this patio is nicer than any Rally’s patio I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating on. It is nestled cozily among tall buildings and is surrounded by a tasteful 6-foot brick wall. The seating consists three faux-granite tables (with built-in benches and unadorned red umbrellas), and a long bar — of what I believe to be real granite — and stools. Ornamental evergreens line one of the walls, and a tall fence lines the other to block the view of unsightly fast food kitchens. It was about 6:35 when I sat down and no one else was back there, so I enjoyed the newfound zen garden in quietude.

Checkers is a lot like Rally’s, but unless Rally’s has recently changed their image and advertising campaign, I think Checkers has a more in-your-face attitude. As evidenced here by the volume of my medium soda, you can tell Checkers, like Rally’s, isn’t short on in-your-face-sized drinks…

…but it doesn’t stop there. The bag my food came in (don’t have a photo yet, sorry) contains such statements as “CAUTION! CONTENTS WILL BE EXTREMELY AWESOME,” and “Think you’re saucy enough to handle flavor this BIG? Check out checkers.com for franchising and employment opportunities.” There’s also exploitative use of a cartoon chicken that I couldn’t do justice with words.

Despite this aggressive approach to fast food, or perhaps because of it, I have to recommend this restaurant to anyone who hasn’t had the Checkers/Rally’s experience, as well as those who want to revisit it. This particular establishment is one to cherish for the ages.

i’ve never been to a rally’s but i want to reblog this in case anybody i know is unfamiliar with checkers.  it really is a fast food chain that stands head and shoulders above all competitors.  even wendy’s.

put a vid together for work about the gowanus dredgers canoe club.  i’m considering a membership.  it gets you keys to a trailer with six canoes in it.

128kbps? uggh

i never thought i would be one of those geeks who gets bent out of shape when their free/stolen music download comes in at a low bit rate.  but today i copped burzum’s dunkelheit at 128 and I’m kinda bumming over the quality.  funny too, since the album sounds like shit on purpose anyway.
